Ethan Smith

Ethan enlisted in the Army on a Ranger contract in 2020 and needed to be able to run 5 miles in under 40 minutes. The challenge? Ethan was a baseball and football player and had never run farther than 1 mile. Using a 20-week periodized training plan we prepared Ethan for his basic training and follow-on Ranger Training. Ethan says,

"My original goal was not only to run 5 miles in under 40 minutes but to exceed that. When I first talked with Shaina there was no way I could have done that. With her program we started out slow which was really nice. One of the things I liked most was the way we worked into running faster, running further. It wasn't too much to handle but very effective. It was just a few months that got me where I needed to be. It helped me find a comfortable pace to resort to and build from. I ran my last 5 mile test in 35:40!"

"When I signed up for a marathon I wasn't really sure how to start training because I wasn't a routine runner. Shaina's plan helped me figure out every day what I was supposed to be doing. There was no question about what I had to run and how to do it because there was a schedule and a plan in place. It was really helpful especially on the days where you don't want to get out of bed and run. It was like all of the guesswork was removed and I knew exactly what I had to do. Using a 100 day training plan I made it through and I didn't quit. I finished a marathon and I was really proud of myself. Shaina's plan made it possible!
